What Pedantic is (and is not)
Pedantic is a compliance assistance tool. It audits your employment policies against UK law, generates replacement policies, monitors for regulatory changes, and tracks employee acknowledgement.
Pedantic does not provide legal advice. Our compliance analysis is based on a structured legal corpus that we maintain, but it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified employment solicitor. For complex employee relations situations — disciplinary matters, tribunal claims, TUPE transfers, or redundancy programmes — you should seek professional legal advice.
You, the employer, retain full responsibility for your employment policies and how they are applied. Pedantic helps you get the documentation right, but the decisions about how to manage your people remain yours.
The compliance corpus
Our compliance analysis is built on a curated corpus of UK employment law requirements. We maintain this corpus with care and update it as legislation changes. However:
- There may be a short delay between a legal change taking effect and the corpus being updated
- The corpus covers the requirements most relevant to UK employers with 10 to 500 employees, not every niche area of employment law
- Sector-specific regulations (such as financial services conduct rules or healthcare-specific requirements) may not be fully covered
Every audit and generated policy records which version of the corpus it was checked against, so you can always see the basis for our analysis.
AI-generated content
Pedantic uses AI to analyse your policies and generate replacements. The AI operates within the framework of our compliance corpus — it applies documented legal requirements, rather than inventing them from training data.
You should review all AI-generated policies before adopting them. While we design the system to produce accurate, compliant output, AI can occasionally produce errors. The policy editor highlights which legal requirements each policy satisfies, making it straightforward to verify coverage.
Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. If you suspect unauthorised access to your account, contact us immediately at compliance@getpedantic.com.
You must provide accurate organisation details. The accuracy of our compliance analysis depends on the information you provide about your business (employee count, sector, workforce type, and similar details).
Subscriptions and payment
The free audit requires an email address only. Paid features require a subscription.
- Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually, depending on the plan you choose
- You can cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period
- We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods. If you cancel mid-month, you retain access until the end of that month
- We may change our prices with 30 days' notice. Price changes apply to the next billing period, not the current one
Payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your payment card details.
Your data
You own your data. Your policies, organisation details, employee information, and acknowledgement records belong to you.
You grant us a licence to process your data for the purpose of providing the service: analysing your policies, generating replacements, monitoring for changes, and distributing policies to your employees. We do not use your data for any other purpose.
You can export your data at any time. If you close your account, we will delete your data within a reasonable period, subject to any legal obligations we have to retain it (such as financial records for tax purposes).
See our privacy policy for full details on how we handle your data.
Service availability
We make reasonable efforts to keep Pedantic available and performing well. Our infrastructure runs on Cloudflare's global network, which provides strong reliability and performance.
However, we do not guarantee 100% uptime. We may occasionally need to take the service offline for maintenance, and third-party service disruptions (Cloudflare, Stripe, email providers) are outside our control. We will give reasonable notice of planned maintenance where possible.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Pedantic's total liability to you for any claims arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including but not limited to: losses arising from reliance on our compliance analysis, tribunal awards or penalties, or lost business opportunities.
This does not exclude or limit our liability for anything we cannot legally exclude — including fraud, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to access other customers' data or interfere with the service's operation
- Resell or redistribute the service (including generated policies) to third parties as a competing service
- Use automated tools to scrape or bulk-download content from the platform
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by email or through the platform at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
